Bob Arnold's
ON WHICH~WAY TRAIL
[ a selection ]
DAY
It's simple —
Birds sunrise
Birds sunset
HABITAT
Nobody around —
but a million
trees
UP IN THE AIR
We'll I'll be —
Finishing the ridge cap roofing job
An ant walks toward me
ALL AT ONCE
Is my love for her really that vast
or is the heart-shaped onion she
brings to my hand at the grocery cart
really that beautiful?
THE GARDEN
I see her out a window the one I love
She sees me and smiles
Looks at me
Again and smiles
Really, she was leaning to look
At the start of spring lettuce
IN DEEP GREEN WOOD
barely snow
ing
as I
bare-
ly
watch
BEING HUMAN
Seeing this —
let me today
if only for a
few moments
twirl like
this autumn
leaf, midair
just like
that, with-
out a care
LOCAL
Spring snow melt—
River rushing through
One ear and out the other
LAUGHING
three boys
run in the
snow
and a
big dog
follows
returning
with a mitten
in its mouth
SUDDENLY MISSISSIPPI
he lost a
lucky rabbit's
foot, green with
a key-chain in
Greenwood, MS
so returning to
find it wait-
ress brought
it to us on
a tray
DESTINATION
through thin
motel walls
we meet
THE WORLD ON A PERFECT DAY
All day it rains a steady rain
We can't work in the garden and fields
We hear the birds
While we wait for the rain to end
The rain never ends
We watch the rain in the trees
We are surrounded by woods
We make love at lunch
for SEA
