The Paris Review Interview
w/ Guy Davenport

Dear Bob,

Davenport is another of those key writers born the same year as my father and seems to bind together so many other writers I admire. I stumbled upon his Geography of the Imagination sometime in the early '80s and had read nothing like. I have Erik Reece's Guy Davenport Reader on my bedside table for special and rare evenings.

stay close,

The GD Reader is a masterpiece, and Geography of the Imagination to this day, and a century before it, remains like nothing else. We are all fortunate to have had the man in our midst. The guy he is sitting to in the photograph ain't none too shabby neither.

By the next day in the Birdhouse, we are at the movies. . .if I may say so, sort of a Davenport event.
