The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree —

Nancy Perloff (daughter of Marjorie Perloff)

has edited an exceptional and dutifully global

appreciation of this diverse art form 

with an expert introduction by Perloff, along with

marvelous showcases by Augusto de Campos,

Ian Hamilton Finlay, Eugen Gomringer,

and now Susan Howe has entered the 

lexicon along with Dieter Roth and

many other naturals. 

Too bad Aram Saroyan wasn't included — 

the anthology is

missing that extra touch of play —

beautifully designed and with

fine detail on each biography.

The international breath

is the ticket.

ARAM SAROYAN ~

SEE ALL AT ONCE ~

One evening, when nothing was planned — often the best way to spend a late summer

evening — and Susan was down with a bug & fever, so I read awhile up in the bedroom with

her, by the large windows looking to the river, reading by the tail end of the daylight until

there was no light and Susan had fallen asleep and I kept on reading this large and beautiful 

book, heavy on the lap, with its deep showcase of the New York School of Poets, both

generations, meaning Ashbury, O'Hara and Koch to Berrigan and them all, and while reading

I just happened to type in wanting to find on the Internet Aram Saroyan's two early books

of poems from Random House via a put-down newsman reading the poems on a major network at the time and although I couldn't find the reading I found Aram Saroyan, in bad lighting, and all the

more interesting because of his intriguing storytelling of the same time I was reading about

in this large art book and I recommend everyone listening to Aram talking, reading his poems,

laughing softly and recalling and actually hearing him read his own one word gems and later

fielding questions from a friendly room.

Friendly Persuasion




The body and the mind
Have a talk together

And the mind convinces the body
To go out with it on a date.

Soon afterwards
The mind calls the body up on the telephone

And says,
"Why don't you drop by?"

"When?" the body asks.
"How 'bout this afternoon."

In no time at all the mind and the body
Are doing steady.

Then they get married.
For a while they are very poor

And sometimes they have to go and stay at the body's folks' place
And then they have to stay at the mind's folks' place.

Neither one is a very good place to stay
They decide

And almost immediately they have a child.
